Building clean energy infrastructure to accelerate the United Kingdom’s transition to a Net Zero economy.

Who we are

FRV, a global IPP and TH Power, a leading developer of renewable energy projects, have come together to form the joint venture, FRV TH Powertek Limited with an aim to develop, construct and operate a portfolio of battery energy storage system projects in UK.

It is expected that the portfolio will reach up to 1GW in capacity over the next 5 years with an estimated aggregate investment of GBP 1 billion.

About FRV

FRV, a part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy & founded in Spain in 2006, is a world leader in providing comprehensive renewable energy solutions with operations across 5 continents:

Europe

North America

South
America

Asia

Australia

FRV’s vision is to become one of the world’s most preferred green utility/energy platforms, building a sustainable future through renewable energy solutions that truly improve the lives of people, and bringing new opportunities providing universal access to clean, efficient and cost-competitive energy.

FRV in the UK

FRV currently has:

140.5 MW / 281 MWh

of projects in
operation in the UK

300MW / 600MWh

under
development

During 2022, Contego and Holes Bay, two
of FRV’s battery plants in the UK, have been the two best performing battery assets in
the country*.

London is FRV’s global hub for
Energy Storage technologies and a
Centre of Excellence for Battery
Energy Storage Systems.

FRV proposes to develop renewable
projects beyond storage (PV, Wind
and Green Hydrogen) in the UK.

About TH Power

TH Power, a developer of renewable energy projects in the UK, seeks to contribute to de-carbonisation of the energy sector in the UK.

The core management team, comprising Preeti Yardi & Ravinder Shan, has extensive experience across the value chain in development, financing, construction and operations of renewable energy projects.

Our vision

Our vision is to become the preferred platform for clean energy projects in the UK to enable meet the nation’s commitment to Net Zero emissions by 2050.

Our mission

We aim to be at the forefront of UK’s transition to clean energy, while setting the highest standards of quality, technical innovation and commitment to our service delivery, from development to operations of our assets and in addition, strive to create benefit for the landowners, minimise the impact on environment and enhance the biodiversity of the project sites.

What is Battery Energy Storage?

Battery Energy Storage systems are a critical component of the grid infrastructure as they enable integration of renewable energy generation and help manage the imbalances in supply and demand of electricity.

Renewable energy sources like Wind and Solar are intermittent in nature as their generation is not available all the time.

Battery Energy storage systems storage energy (charge) when solar or wind energy is plentiful and supply energy (discharge) when demand is at its peak. These systems do not emit any carbon dioxide, and on the other hand help reduce such emissions by storing clean energy and dispatching it when required.

Why do we need battery energy storage systems in UK?

UK has committed to target of Net Zero emissions by 2050 and to decarbonise the electricity system by 2035.

These commitments require a significant growth in implementation of renewable energy sources like Wind and Solar. Moreover, the electricity demand is expected to double by 2050 due to the adoption of Electric Vehicles and deployment of heat pumps and other low carbon technologies.

Accelerated deployment of battery energy storage systems is required to manage the increase in renewable generation and balance the supply with escalation in demand in the electricity network to help UK achieve its goal of lowering carbon emissions.
